Well, maybe I exagerrated a little. He did enjoy the playgrounds (particularly those that squirted water up in the air!) and Mickey's PhilharMagic, but most of the time he looked like he was a bit shellshocked by it all. I think he found a lot of it too loud.

Was just wondering the same thing myself. Their arguments for it are in fact arguments against it. The reputational risk that the policy causes far outweighs any public policy benefits (of which so far I haven't been convinced there is one.)

Probably Cablevision's biggest bargaining tool where public opinion is concerned. They can legitimately claim to desire enhancements to television broadcasting from an options point of view (more channels, digital service, broadband).

Bermuda Broadcasting, by its complete and utter abscence of any form of enhancement to its current offering over the past ten years, cannot claim this.

Both BBC and Cablevision benefit from Cablevision retransmitting BBC's signal - BBC get more viewers, which makes the channels more attractive to advertisers, and Cablevision get a more attractive offering that helps keep their subscriber numbers up. Perhaps it was foolish of BBC to start charging for their content, but I see no reason why Cablevision couldn't just have carved those channels into a separate package and passed along the cost for those who wished to subscribe to it.

Both companies are as bad as each other. BBC are whiners who are unable or unwilling to move with the times, and Cablevision are disingenuous liars with little regard for their customers. Why say you removed 7 and 9 "for legal reasons" when this was clearly a willing choice?

Superbowl is on NBC isn't it? So it shouldn't be affected.

It looks to me like a good old standoff, who'll blink first. BBC is hoping their advertisers don't walk, Cablevision is hoping people don't go to Wow. Time will tell.

Personally, as many problems as I have with Cablevision, I hope they prevail because they can access far better quality feeds than BBC and could offer HD channels. 7 and 9 are unwatchable, over the air or otherwise.

I disagree. This is clearly a financial shakedown by ZBM of Cablevision. They are benefiting from the digital transmission on Cablevision's network versus their own dodgy over-the-air signal. If they wish to charge for their content, Cablevision should be free to charge for the transmission.

Silver lining for consumers - people planning Superbowl parties can plan accordingly and get their Plan B in motion.

Cablevision 'pulling the plug' at the time they did, clearly they didn' t have their subscribers' interests in heart.

Surely you're not saying that no-one has any right to complain about the UBP unless they get involved in the party themselves?

If I don't like the way the PLP is governing the country, am I not entitled to complain unless I join the PLP and try to change it?

If I don't like the lack of choice in Bermuda's stores, can I not complain about it unless I set up my own business?

Perhaps the people actually in the UBP (such as yourself) need to have a hard think about why so many of your core voters are unhappy with you and do something about it.

unfortuately I don't think those guys read or watch the news. Nothing has changed the mindset of the people who overtake blindly, tailgate, etc. They ride along confident that traffic will always yield to them.

Yeah, I started thinking along the same lines myself. But the hard drive actually turned out to be OK and the monitor problem doesn't look like something that would be caused by a power problem (more likely a small crack in the circuit board).
